We believe we provide one of the finest selections of freshly-caught fish anywhere in this area – and if you take a look at what’s on offer we think you’ll agree.
Our catches mainly come from day boats operating around Devon and Cornwall and most of what you see has arrived on the slab within hours of being landed.
But we are also lucky in having the sea if not on our doorstep then only a matter of minutes away – so we also stock more locally-caught varieties, including delicious Bristol Channel herrings when available.
Which means that our fish display really does depend on weather and availability, so may well differ from one week to the next.
However we are rarely unable to offer live crab or lobster as well as oysters and other shellfish.
People are getting much more adventurous when buying and cooking fish: it’s no longer the inevitable cod, plaice or haddock. But whether it’s gurnard or delectable monkfish you are after you’ll probably find it here – with plenty of expert advice on how to cook it.
Among our most popular lines are swordfish and tuna steaks: slightly exotic perhaps, but both ridiculously simple to cook and with outstanding eating quality making them excellent value for money.
And aside from the live crabs we always have freshly-prepared crab meat in stock – just the thing for sandwiches.
For smoked fish we’ve had to bend our own rules slightly and source from outside the South West, but the products we stock from Inverawe Smokehouse do guarantee you are always buying top quality.
The same goes for our jars of fish soup from Brittany – and we’ll even supply that essential accompaniment, delicious garlicky rouille to spread on your croutons.
We are always happy to cater for special occasions or make up one-off orders, though as we say our fish comes fresh from the sea, not frozen from the freezer. And bearing in mind that issue of availability it’s best to get your orders in to us as far in advance as possible.
